Overview
Arsi Mountains National Park is located in the south-eastern part of the Oromia Region and is known for its stunning highland scenery and diverse ecosystems. The Park is part of the Ethiopian Highlands and features high-altitude plateaus, rolling hills, dense forests, and deep gorges. The Arsi Mountains are home to a variety of wildlife, including the endemic mountain nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, and several species of birds.

Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Asella and Transfer to Arsi Mountains National Park
This 4-day trekking itinerary through Arsi Mountains National Park covers breathtaking landscapes, wildlife encounters, and visits to scenic highlands and forests, with overnight stays at basic but comfortable accommodations nearby.
Morning: Arrive in Asella (175 km from Addis Ababa, around 4 hours by road).
Meet your guide and transfer to Arsi Mountains National Park, approximately 20 km from Asella.
Afternoon: Begin with a half-day trek in the lower areas of the park, exploring lush valleys and forests.
In the late afternoon, continue with walking safari sighting endemic wildlife like mountain nyala and Menelik’s bushbuck.

Day 2: Trek to Mount Chilalo
Morning: Full-day trek to Mount Chilalo, the highest peak in the park. The trek includes diverse alpine landscapes, grasslands, and breathtaking views from the summit.
Afternoon: Continue hiking around the summit area to take in the panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Day 3: Trek to the Bale-Arsi Wildlife Corridor
Morning: Depart for a full-day trek towards the Bale-Arsi Wildlife Corridor, a rich area connecting Arsi Mountains with the Bale Mountains. Trek through high-altitude grasslands and forests, spotting endemic birds and wildlife.
Afternoon: Arrive at your campsite by late afternoon, situated in a scenic location along the wildlife corridor.
Activities include: Trekking, wildlife tracking, and enjoying the pristine natural environment.

Day 4: Return to Asella and Departure
Morning: Begin your trek back toward the lower areas of Arsi Mountains NP, descending through scenic trails.
Afternoon: Transfer back to Asella for your return journey to Addis Ababa or onward travel.
